RIP Peter Steele

My phone woke me up around 2:30am with a text from my sister saying "Is it true Peter Steele died?!?". I immediately checked online to see if I could see anything. No official, confirmed information so I went back to sleep. I checked again this morning and yes, he had died of heart failure last night, at the age of 48. So sad.

Type O Negative were such an integral part of my teens and early 20's. They were part metal, part goth. Good songs, good lyrics, tongue in cheek. You never knew if they were being serious, having a laugh, or just simply taking the piss out of the world.
And I had decided, at the age of 16, that one day I would marry Peter Steele. But I never got to meet him (even though we live in the same borough now), and I never will.

I grew out of the idea of marrying him by the age of 23, but I still know every Type O Negative song off by heart.
My heart goes out to the other band members, his family and friends. RIP.
